Simple Website

Recently I've been rather interested in the benefits of plain text life - simplicity, robustness, resiliency. I personaly am getting tired of things that are just too bloated and slow and often break.

This site reflects that new approach towards simplicity, in that it is all hand-coded. Yep, back to basics - smell that fresh baked code.

The intent in building the site like this is to bring you certain benefits as the reader.

  • It makes the content load as fast as possible! There's NOT a lot of hidden stuff running in the background before you even get to see anything.
  • It keeps your visit private and safe! I haven't put any trackers, or other 3rd (or 4th or 5th?) party sources and "announcements" of your visit anywhere. *see below on how to prove this.
  • It helps to protect you from hackers! Because it's a static site, basically just a plain ol' digital letter, there's no interactive javascript running and no databases that can be hacked to harm you or steal your data.
  • It keeps you from those annoying ads and even more internet stalkers! The only "ads" I'll ever have on this site are static ones I hand code in and fully approve of, they'll never jump out at you or follow you around. As you can see I don't have any running now....
  • It keeps you free from distractions! I believe most of my readers/visitors to be capable and intelligent people who don't need flashy gimmics and "cartoons" to be "kept" focused. This should be very much like reading a letter or a book. I'll include pictures and video where needed but no more. If you aren't interested then move on to something else, I won't try to force you against your will.
  • It can be packed up and taken where ever you might go! Being so lean and simple without all the "interactive" pieces it can easily be saved for offline viewing; whether you keep an archive of things you like, or are taking us with you as reading material on your circum-navigation sailing trip. It's just as easy as right clicking and saving the content.

It also helps me... not having to manage (read: juggle) too many parts just to keep things running, I can instead focus on producing interesting and helpful content for you!

Did you know many webpages use as much of your local computer's memory as a full install of a 3-D first-person-shooter video game from the 90's; and their not even 3-D or give you any points for visiting ;-). Not only that, but often, most websites are loading data from 3-50 different URLs and most of those sites are just there to track your movements around the internet (whether Facebook, or Google, or various other advertisers). Even if those sites are there for tracking many times splitting up the content sources just isn't necessary.

* How to prove if my claims of simplicity are honest, and also to see what other sites have behind the scenes. Just press CTRL+u, or a menu item for viewing the source code, on any webpage of interest. The more javascript and php, or heck even just the longer the page regardless of length of the readable content the more slowly the page will perform and more privacy issues arise. Also you can use Mozilla Firefox or that with uBlock Origin as a addon to block, and see what you're blocking, all that extra bloat. You'd be surprized how many different web-addresses are asked/told about your presence on most sites. (You can no longer use Google Chrome to do this because Google decided that you're privacy and ease of use was secondary to their ability to track you and confound your progress with ads.)

I won't do any of that to you here. This website will not allow others to track you, or be too bloated to even load. I'll keep it lean and focus on getting valuable content to you, even if that means no "fancy" animations for nothing other than just scrolling down a page.
